Intermodal freight transport or multi-modal freight transportation involves the transportation of freight in a specialized container, using multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck), without any handling of the freight itself when changing modes. The method reduces cargo handling, and so improves security, reduces damages and losses, and allows freight to be transported faster. The key benefit for intermodal use to the shipper is reduced costs in comparison to over the road trucking.
You will learn in this module when intermodal is a benefit to your clients and when it may not be. After you have completed this training you will have the knowledge required to book your loads directly through the Railroads or railroad service providers known as Intermodal Marketing Companies (IMC’s).
Moving freight from port to port on ocean going vessels requires additional certifications and knowledge. This course will be available soon
LTL (less than truck load) shipments typically weigh between 151 and 20,000 lb (68 and 9,072 kg). Less than truckload carriers collect freight from various shippers and consolidate that freight into over the road trailers for line haul (points between terminals) to the delivering terminal or to a hub terminal where the freight will be further sorted and consolidated for additional line hauls.
Moving LTL is clearly different than moving truckload freight. It requires a complete understanding of how freight density and the value of the freight affect transportation cost and how to accurately calculate rates. After completing the LTL course you will have a working knowledge of the National Motor Freight Classification system which explains how LTL common carriers establish rates. You’ll also learn load planning, common carrier procedures, techniques and how to avoid potential problems with your client’s shipments and pricing issues. Your LTL training will equip you with the knowledge and the tools you’ll need to earn additional revenues in the LTL multi-billion dollar transportation arena.
Project Freight management involves offering specialized services including Engineering, moving heavy machinery and oversized loads. This course will be available soon.
